Be part of SCOTO

SCOTO is a Cooperative and Company Limited by Guarantee. As a cooperative we are owned and managed by our members.

Our approach to membership is to be inclusive with voting members being those who are practicing community tourism within Scotland and investing in their local community.

We also have a non-voting associate category for groups and organisations that are developing new Community Tourism projects which are not yet open.

We will also welcome other businesses and organisations able to support what we and our members do and DMOs that align with our principles.

Our smallest but equally important category is for individuals working within or interested in Community Tourism who can access and contribute to our networks and resources.

Full Members

Have full voting rights, receive a SCOTO plaque, the enterprise is
profiled online for visitors and you have access to all online resources, forums and events

Partners: Community owned and/
or managed tourism providers and
operators

Associates

Have access to resources, forums and events - no voting rights

Aspirers: community organisations who are in the process of developing or setting up a community tourism operation

Supporters: businesses and organisations who fully support SCOTO activity but are not themselves community owned/managed tourism
providers and operators.

Individuals

Have access to online networking, resources and events – no voting
rights

Friends: individuals either operating in or keen supporters of community owned and managed tourism. Communities Leading in Tourism Programme alumni are immediately eligible to be ‘Friends’. Full members get three ‘friends’ allocated for named individuals in their organisation.

Brand

Developing an instantly recognisable SCOTO brand

Website

Operating a visitor facing website www.scoto.co.uk which will have an interactive map showcasing each of our partners under key themes

Plaque

Providing a brand marque plaque – digital and physical – for display by partners to both raise awareness of and drive footfall to community owned and managed tourism enterprises across Scotland

Social Media

Being active on social media as @SCOTOnetwork profiling our activity and partners and engaging in wider tourism conversations

PR

PR and media activity to raise awareness of our presence and offering

Forum

Providing self managing on-line forums for signed up partners, aspirers, supporters and friends

Resources

Gathering and sharing online resources to assist our partners, aspirers, supporters and friends

Network

Hosting regular online gatherings and webinars to share best practice and catch up with our partners, supporters and friends
