We are delighted you have or are interested in joining the SCOTO Network. Our network is growing and every single person or organistaion that joins, adds real value and contributes to making a difference to community tourism across Scotland. Be part of it.

All SCOTO Networkers, Enterprises and Supporters have to agree to the below Pledges, the SCOTO Co-operative Members' Agreement and the International Principles to be part of SCOTO.

SCOTO Pledges

As a SCOTO Networker, I agree to the terms of the SCOTO Member Agreement,  subscribe to the International Co-operative Principles and pledge my support to the growth and development of Community Tourism across Scotland by signing up to the following.

• To embrace and support the Vision, Mission and Goals [insert link} of SCOTO.

• To be an ambassador for Community Tourism in my everyday life.

• To consider opportunities available to support my own community in furthering the principles of Community  Tourism. 

• To play an active and positive role in any relevant networking activity provided by SCOTO.

• To respond to surveys and requests for information from SCOTO and the network.

• To not bring SCOTO or Community Tourism into disrepute.

• To reaffirm my pledge of support on an annual basis.

 

As a SCOTO Enterprise and SCOTO Supporter, we agree to the terms of the SCOTO Member agreement subscribe to the International Co-operative Principles and pledge our support to the growth and development of Community Tourism across Scotland by signing up to the following for our organisation.

SCOTO Co-operative Members' Agreement

IT IS AGREED as follows:-

Membership

1. Member shall mean any individual who has been admitted to membership of the Co-operative under Article 10 of the Articles of Association and has electronically signed the agreement known as the Members’ Pledge.

There are two tiers of membership:

 

SCOTO Networkers are individuals from across Scotland who are involved, or have an interest in, Community Led Tourism.  These members have voting rights in our co-operative.

 

SCOTO Associates are:

• organisations which provide community tourism services.

• organisations or individuals who are supportive of CLT, but not currently providing community tourism services.

Associate Members are not able to vote on co-operative matters.

2.The liability of each member is limited to a maximum of £1 under the terms of Article 8 of the Articles of Association.

 

3. Membership is open to individuals/organisations who are involved, or have an interest in, Community Led Tourism.

 

4. Members will primarily be based in Scotland but may be located across the world and have a specific link to Scotland.

The Co-operative’s Purpose

5. The purpose of the Co-operative, apart from carrying out its function as a co-operative under the terms of Article 4 of the Articles of Association, shall be to carry on activities which benefit the members and in particular to:

i. provide a forum for networking, collaboration and learning about the work of other Community Tourism organisations and enterprises and the wider tourism sector.

ii.provide an online Community Tourism learning and development resource.

iii. provide programmes of Community Tourism support including and not restricted to small grants, mentoring and capacity building.

iv. provide advisory and facilitation services to support the growth and development of Community Tourism across Scotland.

v. provide leadership and representation for Community Tourism organisations and enterprises across Scotland.

vi. market and raise awareness of Community Tourism in general and products and experiences provided by associate members.

vii. gather data and intelligence about Community Tourism.

The Co-operative’s Obligations under this Agreement are:

1. To provide potential Members with information about what the role of a Member is within the Co-operative (with reference to the two Tiers of Networker and Associate Member), and to provide training in the skills required to be a Member and to participate in the operation of the Co-operati

 

2. To arrange regular meetings of the Members to discuss matters of common interest. Meetings shall be accessible and conducted in such a way as to encourage participation.

 

3. To provide ongoing education and training in co-operative values and principles and associated to

 

4. To arrange relevant training as required and/or signpost to training otherwise available nearby.

 

5. To arrange for the renting of temporary and/or permanent spaces where Members and supporters can carry out activities.

 

6. To encourage the sharing of information, resources and opportunities.

 

7. To provide a framework for peer support and learning.

 

8. To develop a shared voice in consultations and public forums, and otherwise engage with outside bodies as necessary.

 

9. To apply for funding as agreed.

 

10. To acquire and maintain any necessary equipment.

 

11. To maintain any necessary insurance cover.

 

12. To receive, manage and disburse funds, to maintain a bank account for this purpose, to maintain financial records and to prepare regular financial reports to the Members.

 

13. To receive, consider and if appropriate accept applications from new Members and under the terms of Article 10 of the Articles of Association.

 

14. To ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including the submission of returns to Companies House and the CIC Regulator as required.

 

15. To affiliate to or take out membership of any relevant bodies.

 

16. To provide all Members with a copy of the Articles of Association, this Agreement and any other relevant documentation.

 

17. To protect the interests of the organisation and the Members as a whole rather than those of any particular Member.

 

18. To arrange mediation services in the event of any unresolved dispute between Members with each other or with the Co-operative.

The Member’s Obligations in signing this Agreement are:

1. To become a Member of the Co-operative and thereby abide by the Articles of Association of the Co-operative and the terms of this Agreement.

 

2. To attend general meetings of the Members, and abide by policies that may be agreed there from time to time.

 

3. To take an active interest in the operation and development of the Co-operative by taking on responsibility for particular roles as required.

 

4. To maintain confidentiality in relation to matters discussed by the Co-operative.

 

5. To use the Co-operative’s name and equipment only as authorised by it.

 

6. To represent the Co-operative as required.

 

7. To act reasonably, respect other Members, and avoid bringing the Co-operative into disrepute.

 

8. In the event of any grievance or dispute, to raise this in the first instance with the Co-operative and to enter any mediation procedure designed to resolve the matter.

 

9. To accept that membership of the Co-operative may be withdrawn if the terms of this Agreement are not adhered to.

General

1. This Members’ Agreement is identical to the other Members’ Agreements held between the Co-operative and its Members, and supersedes any previous Agreement.

 

2. The Members Agreement may be modified by the Co-operative with the agreement of 75% of those Members attending a general meeting for that purpose.

 

3. The Member and the Co-operative understand that this agreement is written in plain language and may therefore not cover every legal eventuality. The parties agree to be fair and reasonable at all times when administering this Agreement.

This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the Law of Scotland.
